The Everest Gokyo lake trek is one of the most fabulous trek journeys in Nepal. The trek takes place in the Khumbu region. Even though the Everest Base Camp trek is much more famous, Everest Gokyo Lake trek is more beautiful. 

The magnificent river valleys of the region and the beautiful Gokyo Lake are a major attraction that makes this trek truly gorgeous. The Gokyo lake is considered to be the sacred lake of Hindu people, and they hold it in very high regard, religiously. It is believed that the Gokyo Lake is the home of the Snake Gods – the Nagas. 

The adventurous Everest Gokyo lake trek initiates with a lovely flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. Lukla is the entry point to the Everest region. The trekking follows the Dudh Koshi River Valley and most mesmerizing destinations. 

The Everest Gokyo Lake trek includes the finest features that the Khumbu region has. The trek begins with a short flight to Lukla. Likewise, you will visit renowned Khumbu villages and settlements. Also, we will be visiting the famous places of Khumbu region like Namche Bazaar, Dole, and Macchermo, among many others. All of the places in the Khumbu region is blessed with the magnificence of the Everest Himalayas. You can also see brilliant views of Mountain peaks like Cho Oyu, Makalu, Everest, Lhotse, and many more.

The Everest Gokyo Lake Trek does not follow the common trekking trail. You will be traveling through the way less traveled. You will get to learn and experience Sherpa culture all along the way. Also, you will witness lots of mani stone walls and small Chortens with prayer flags along the journey.

Most importantly, you will visit the Gokyo Ri, which is well known for being one of the best natural vantage points. From here, the delighting panoramic views of the Everest is the scene to die for.

The best time for the Everest Gokyo Lake Trek is during spring and autumn. March to May and September to December are the best months for this trip.

Itinerary Show all

Day One:

Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu

On your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport, our airport representative will meet you at the arrival gate and take you to your hotel. Nothing much is planned for this day, so you will just meet your trekking guide and be informed about your daily activities on your stay. After that, you can just rest at your hotel or involve in any activities you like. In the evening, our company will organize a welcome dinner for you to enjoy.

Day Two:

Kathmandu Sightseeing and trekking preparation

The exploration of Kathmandu Valley starts after breakfast. Today, we will go sightseeing, Kathmandu. Kathmandu is not only the capital city of Nepal but also is one of the most significant historical city. This city is filled with UNESCO World Heritage Site. Firstly, you will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square located at Basantapur, where you will visit Kumari Temple, Hanuman Dhoka Museum, the statue of Kaal Bhairab (the god of destruction), Taleju Vawani (the temple opened once a year on the 9th day of Dashain). You will also visit one of the biggest Hindu Temple of Nepal – Pashupatinath, the famous monkey temple- Swoyambunath and one of the largest stupas in the world – Boudhanath. Then we will move towards Bhaktapur, which was the royal capital, and the whole city is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Here you will visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, traditional houses, and traditional Newari museums. Then, we will go to Nagarkot hill, which is one of the best destinations to view the whole Kathmandu Valley. Finally, we will visit Lalitpur, where we will learn about Nepalese history. The evening is left free for your activities.

Day Three:

Fly to Lukla (2800m) and trek to Phakding (2652m)

Right after breakfast, we will catch the early morning flight to Lukla, which is the beginning destination of our trek. The flight takes about thirty-five minutes, and this will be the most amazing flight you have ever experienced. You can enjoy the view of the lush green landscape and snow-filled white mountains. After our arrival at Lukla, we will meet our trek member and finish our arrangement to start the trek through Lukla village to Phakding. The trail to Phakding is filled with a green landscape with a beautiful view of Kusum Kanguru. To get adapt to the atmosphere, we will go for a short trek today. We will be trekking for only about three hours. However, for those wanting to go for additional trips, we can go to Monasteries nearby. We can also move to the Gompa to see the first view of huge mountain peaks. We will be spending the night at Phakding.

Day Four:

Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m)

We will begin trekking to Namche Bazaar right after breakfast. We pass over the Dudh Koshi, climb up through Himalayan pine and cedar forest to the famous village of Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is famous as the traditional trading post of Nepalese and Tibetan dealers. The local market of Namche Bazaar is filled with shops selling traditional crafts. Also, some shops sell trekking gear, although it is quite expensive. Before reaching Namche bazaar, we will visit Zamphuti from where we will get the perfect view of Thamserku.

Furthermore, we will be visiting one of the highest national park in the world, Sagarmatha National Park. Sagarmatha National Park is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The walk to Namche Bazaar will take about five to six hours. We will be moving through the beautiful Rhododendron forest and cross a few bridges. And, after a few hundred meters climb with lots of ups and downs, we will arrive at Namche Bazaar.


Day Five:

Relax at Namche Bazaar

This day is planned for acclimatization so that you will get adapt to the high altitude atmosphere and prevent altitude sickness. Even though this day is planned for you to relax, it is not good to stay idle. So, we will be hiking to nearby places. Firstly, we will visit one of the highest airports in the world, Syangboche Airport (3700m). Then, ascend towards the Everest View Hotel to get the beautiful panoramic views of the Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Tawache, etc. Walking over the wildest river of Nepal- Bhote Koshi, we might also visit Sagarmatha National Park and enjoy its variety of flora and fauna. On our way of return, we will also visit the Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallery. We can also visit Hillary School and Khunde Hospital before returning to Namche. In Namche Bazaar, you can spend some time interacting with the fun-loving Sherpa and Rai people.

Day Six:

Walk up to Dole (4200m)

After we have taken rest for a day, we will move towards Dole from Namche Bazaar, which will take about five hours. The trail to Dole goes downhill, and then we need to climb up to pass through the Mon La Pass before reaching Phortse Tenga. On our way, we will move through the valley, rhododendron forests, which give way to scented views of juniper and huge conifers as the altitude increases. During the spring season, when the Rhododendron blooms fully, the trek is much more beautiful. The path moves through the villages of Tongba (3950m) and Gyele (3960m) to Dole, which is the place where we will stay for the night.

Day Seven:

Dole to Machhermo (4400m)

The trek begins with the climb up to the beautiful crest over Dole and then ascend to Lhabarma(4220m) to Luza (4360m). You will get the best view of Cho Oyu, Kantega and Thamserku from Luze. Moreover, we will walk through many beautiful summer settlements and scenic village of Luza. Wherever there are a flat spot and the smallest hint of water, you will see Kharkas. The path carries on to ascend the side of the valley, high above the river, crossing sandy spurs to Machhermo at (4410m). Machhermo is the final village on our way to Gokyo. This is the place with the most believable yeti incident ever reported where Yeti killed three yaks and attacked a Sherpa woman in 1974. The wonderful view of Cho Oyu, Kantega and Thamserku make it worth four-hour challenging trek.  

Day Eight:

Rest in Macchermo and sightsee

The day at Macchermo is also separated for you to get accustomed to the high altitude. However, the day will not be wasted; we will be going for sightseeing around the place.

Day Nine:

Hike to Gokyo Lake (4700m)

The hike to the Gokyo Lake begins with a climb toward a ridge where we can get a magnificent view of both down the valley and the gigantic Mountain peaks such as Kangtega, Thamserku, and Northern part of Cho-Oyu. Then, we will hike to cover a short distance to Chortne. After that, we will hike down to the Riverbank before starting to climb up to the mortal moraine of Ngozamba glacier. It’s a sharp climb up the rubble, switchbacking alongside the stream to the first small Lake at (4650m), where a family of Brainy green ducks resides. The three lakes are within a short distance. With the hike of just a few minutes, we will get to witness the mesmerizing Gokyo Lakes. After visiting the lakes, we will return to Gokyo, where we will spend the night. The overall trek will take up to four hours.

Day Ten:

Hike to Gokyo RI (5360m) and back to Dole

The trek to Gokyo Ri will begin early in the morning. We will climb up to the Gokyo-RI in the early morning to get the mesmerizing view of the Mahalangur Himalayan range. The climb is steep, so it is a bit challenging. However, you will get one of the most beautiful panoramic views of Cho-Oyu, the Gyanchung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse, and the Tawache. Also, we can see the largest glacier of Nepal, Ngozumpa glacier. After enjoying the view of renowned Gokyo RI, we will descend to Gokyo, where we will have breakfast and return to Dole where we will spend the night. Once again, we can enjoy the beautiful Rhododendron forest on our way back. Today’s trip will take about five hours.

Day Eleven:

Trek down to Khumjung Village (3780m)

On this day, we will trek to Khumjung village situated at an altitude of 3780 meters. Dole truly blooms amazingly, particularly in the course of the spring season with abundant flowers. Walking more, we will arrive at the hidden valley, Khumjung village. This is one of the most key villages in the Everest Region. Here we will make a trip to the Khumjung monastery and also visit the surrounding villages of Sherpa people. The overall trek takes about six hours.

Day Twelve:

Trek Down to Manjo (2835m)

After we bid goodbye to the Khumjung village, we will move towards the Syangboche runway where we can get the view of beautiful mountains. Then, we will walk to Thame village, where we will have lunch watching the mesmerizing view of snowcapped peaks. On our way to Thame, we might meet the Tibetan trader’s encampment, where we can learn and experience their unique culture and tradition. After we depart from Thame, we will cross Bhote Koshi via the bridge. After that, we will walk from side to side with the area of Thamo and get there at Namche Bazaar. On our way back, we might spot wildlife like mountain goats, musk deer, pheasants, etc. We can take revisited looks at Tabuche, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kangtega, and a distant view of Tengboche. After a bit of walk, we will reach an intersection where the vertical trail up from Sansa meets our trek. Walking down, we will cross the large suspension bridge above the Dudh Kosi River and then pass through Jorsale to get to Manjo, where we will spend the night. The trek should take no more than five hours. 

Day Thirteen:

Trek to Lukla (2840m)

This is the last day of the Trek. After we depart from Manjo, we will walk through the Dudh Koshi River to the small airport at Lukla, where you will catch the return flight to Kathmandu. From Manjo, the path goes down for a while and cross over the suspension bridge of Dudh Koshi River to reach Benkar. The way at Chablung leading uphill to the left-hand side climbs gradually past a few local inns. From there, the trail follows through the scrub forest above the school and houses of Chaurikharka village. After half an hour of walk, you will reach Lukla.

Day Fourteen:

Flight to Kathmandu

We will catch the early morning flight to Kathmandu and bid goodbye to Lukla, enjoying the mesmerizing view of deep valleys and majestic mountain peaks for thirty minutes. You can enjoy the scenic flight while recalling the greatest adventure you took. Upon return, you will be transferred to your hotel. Afterward, you can spend the day resting or shopping in the city or involve in the activity of your preference. 

Day Fifteen:

Trip Concludes

Our airport representative will transfer you to Tribhuwan International Airport around three hours before your flight from where you will depart.
