Overview

Annapurna with Tilicho Lake Trek is one of the most adventurous treks in Nepal, which takes you through the untamed beauty and diversity and the mighty Himalayas of the Annapurna region and Tilicho Lake. Tilicho Lake is one of the essential highlights of the trek as the lake situated in the highest altitude in the world at a height of 4949 m. Furthermore, some towering mountains, including Nilgiri, Khangshar, Muktinath peak, and some other surround the lake. Another highlight of the trek besides Tilicho Lake is the holy temple of Muktinath temple and the rocky Thorangla mountain pass set at the altitude of 5416 meters. There are many mountain views points which one can find during the trek, such as Manang, Muktinath, and Jomsom. Still, Thorangla pass provides a fantastic spot for viewing the majestic beauty of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Range. Some other beautiful mountain peaks that one can see during the trek are Manaslu, Pisang, Chulu, and Gangapuma.

The path of the trek cuts through varied elevations, arctic landscapes ranging from sub-tropics to snowy barren and alpine forests, and diverse climates ranging from semi-tropical to desert. Furthermore, the view of lush forests and rice terrace fields and unique landscapes add to the beauty. Besides natural scenery and views, for those travelers who are interested in different cultures, this trek offers a brilliant opportunity to appreciate the rich Buddhist culture of the region as the path passes through quaint villages like Pisang, Chame, and Kharka. The locals in the villages are known to be very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. 

The 17 days Annapurna with Tilicho Lake Trek starts with a sightseeing tour in Kathmandu. The historic sites listed in the UNESCO like Pashupathinath Temple, Swayambhunath (monkey temple) and Bouddhanath stupa are the places for sightseeing. Next, we will drive to Chamje and enjoy the day. Our real trek begins from the fourth day; we will trek to Dharapani from Chamje and to Chame and then to Pisang. From Pisang, we will head to Manang, a popular trekking destination in Nepal. Along the way to reach Manang, we can catch the outstanding view of Mt. Annapurna, Pisang, and other peaks. After reaching Manang, we will head to Khangshar on the eighth day of our trek. Khangshar offers the view of mountains along with roaring rivers and a Buddhist monastery. On the ninth day of our trek, we will head to Tilicho Base Camp. The next day, we will head to Tilicho Lake, enjoy the view of the beautiful lake surrounded by snow-capped high mountains and head back to Tilicho Base Camp. Then, on the eleventh day, we will start heading to Yak Kharka along the beautiful path surrounded by alpine vegetation. From Yak Kharka, we will again trek to Thorang Phedi on the twelfth day. After spending a night in Thorang Phedi, we will head to Muktinath via Thorang La pass. Thorang La Pass offers an outstanding view of the mountains. Once we visit Muktinath temple, we will continue our journey to reach Jomsom, one of the most famous trekking destinations in Nepal. From Jomsom, we will catch a flight to the beautiful lake city of Pokhara. The next day, we will again take another flight to Kathmandu, which will be the end of our journey.

Day One:

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300 m) - about 30 minutes drive

On the first day, you will arrive in Kathmandu through the only International airport of Nepal, Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA). Just outside the airport, you will be welcomed by our member who will take you to your hotel room in a private vehicle. After checking in, you can take some rest or enjoy some time wandering around the city. Thamel is a beautiful tourist hub in Kathmandu for shopping local and branded goods.

In the evening, we will offer a welcome dinner where you can try out delicious local Nepalese cuisine. It will be a great way to introduce you to the country's local food.

We will stay the night in Kathmandu.

Day Two:

Kathmandu Sightseeing and trek preparation - about 5 hours sight-seeing

On the second day, we will go for a guided tour to some famous historical monuments and spiritual places of Kathmandu, most of which are listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. One of the holiest and sacred temples for Hindus is the Pashupatinath temple. Buddhists Shrine (Boudhanath Stupa) is one of the largest Stupas and sacred places for Buddhists. Similarly, Swayambhunath Stupa (The Monkey Temple), meaning "self-existent," is also considered sacred, especially for Buddhists, but several monkeys reside in the area. So, it is also popular among tourists.

Once we complete our sightseeing, we will meet up with our team leader and other team members and discuss the trekking. It will provide us an excellent opportunity to bond with other trekkers, which is a must during any trek. Furthermore, in the evening time, you might need to stroll around the city to do some shopping if you need some gears for the trek.

We will stay another night in Kathmandu.

Day Three:

Drive to Chamje (1,410 m) - 6-7 hours drive

Early in the morning, we will hit the road. From Kathmandu, we will drive to Chamje village. Chamje is a small and beautiful village in the Annapurna Region set at the altitude of 1430 m. It has a roaring waterfall, which is an attraction for both the locals and travelers as well. Similarly, the natural greenery all around the village adds to the beauty of the town.

For those travelers who are willing to experience the local culture of Nepal, Chamje provides a wonderful opportunity.

We will stay the night in Chamje along with the locals.

Day Four:

Trek from Chamje to Dharapani (1,960 m) - 5-6 hours trek

It is the day of our actual trek on foot. We will begin our trek early in the morning. The trail takes us through different vegetable farmlands, roaring waterfalls, and stunning villages with mixed communities that are believed to have moved from Tibet.

Once we cross the suspension bridge below Chamje, we will climb two steep hills and reach the village of Tal. From Tal village, we will head to the Manang District. Along the way, we will pass through Kodo Village and trek along the mountainside path to get to one of the biggest villages of Manang district, Dharapani

We will stay the night in Dharapani.

Day Five:

Dharapani to Chame (2,710 m) - 5-6 hours trek

On the fifth day of the trek, we will trek through a few vertical, densely forested ridge and various landslides on the path to Chame. The way to Chame is sure to provide you with some thrilling adventure. It is the headquarters of the Manang district.

As we walk through the trails, we will catch the views of the Himalayas including Lamjing, Annapurna II and Annapurna IV. Similarly, we will also walk through several hot springs, which will be a great spot to relax for some time and re-energize your body.

We will stay the night in Chame.

Day Six:

Chame to Pisang (3,300 m) - 5-6 hours trek

After spending a cozy night in Chame, we will start our trek along the steep up and down the path and thinly populated settlements and narrow valley to get the marvelous view of Paungda Danda rock face. It is a curved rock face set at the altitude of 1500 m from the river (4,730 m). We can also get magnificent views of some high Himalayas like Annapurna II in the south and Pisang Peak to the north.

From Pauganda Danda, we will descend to Pisang (3,330 m), enjoying the view of the mountains and unique landscape.

We will stay the night in Pisang.

Day Seven:

Pisang to Manang (3,500 m) - 5-6 hours trek

From Pisang, we will head to Manang. There are two routes available. We will go through the course, which passes through Upper Pisang via Geru. As this path offers a marvelous view of the Himalayas like Mt. Annapurna, Pisang peak, and some other, it will be an excellent path for our trek.

Along the way too Manang, we can make a short visit to Barge Monastery, the biggest monastery in the Manang District. As we get closer to Manang, the weather becomes colder and drier.

We will spend the night in Manang.

Day Eight:

Manang to Khangshar (3,745 m) - 2-3 hours trek

After having a freshly cooked breakfast, we will continue our journey to reach the village of Khangshar. As we walk along the trail, we will pass through a deep gorge, and we can also witness the Tilicho Peak within the clouds from far above. Furthermore, we will walk, enjoying the beauty of the Annapurna Range all the way.Likewise, we can also witness small villages with their unique culture and lifestyle and beautiful Tore monastery before reaching Khangshar.

In addition to all these, the roaring Khangshar River and Grand Barrier are also the highlights along the way before reaching Khangshar along the way.

We will spend the night in Khangshar.

Day Nine:

Khangshar to Tilicho Base Camp (4,140 m) - 5-6 hours trek

After spending the night in Khangshar, we will continue our journey to reach Tilicho Base Camp. We will walk through the vast grassy fields a while after our trek. Then, we will do a short climb to a small hill from where we can enjoy the view of the majestic snowy peaks and beautiful valley of Manang. Along the way, we will also walk through the narrow landslide danger trail. It is sure to make every step adventurous and adrenaline for every traveler.

After descending steep inclination, we will enter the Tilicho Base Camp. As there are not many hotels, lodges or teahouse in the Tilicho Base Camp area, we might have to go for camping.

We will stay the night at Tilicho Base Camp.

Day Ten:

Visit Tilicho Lake (4,949 m) and back to Tilicho Base Camp - 5-6 hours trek

Today we will trek to Tilicho Lake, the lake at the highest altitude in the world. After making a steep ascent, the trail transverses onto a moraine and then goes through the edge of the mountain, which also has a twisted path. The path is somewhat tricky, but the marvelous views of snowy peaks like Tilicho, Nilgiri, Khangshar, and Muktinath make trekking through the steep path worth the effort. 

Furthermore, the natural beauty of Tilicho Lake, its surrounding peaks, and their reflection in the clear blue water make the view even more stunning. Sometimes, the water in the lake is frozen. We will take some time enjoying the beauty of the place and then head back to base camp.

Day Eleven:

Tilicho Base Camp to Yak Kharka (4040 m) - 4-5 hours trek

After spending the night in Tilicho Base Camp, we will continue our journey through the trails that take us out of the Marshyangdi village. There will be a change in the surrounding scenery as the trees are left behind and swapped with alpine vegetation. We will walk along with the ruins of old Changsha village, and after a short trek, we will cross a log bridge between Gumsang and Yak Kharga.

Yak Kharka is a stunning Himalayan village with lots of yaks standing around and grazing in the fields. We can get astonishing views of Annapurna III from the village.

Overnight in Yak kharka.

Day Twelve:

Yak Kharga to Thorang Phedi (4420 m) - 3-4 hours trek

Today we will trek uphill to Thorang Phedi. After hiking for some time from Yak Kharga, we will cross a suspension bridge to reach Ledar village. From Ledar village, we will walk further uphill and pass through tall cliffs until we reach Thorang Phedi, the village before Thorang La Pass. The word "Phedi" in Nepali means the foot of the mountain. 

Along the way to Thorang Phedi, we can get majestic views of Mt. Syagang, Mt. Gundang, Mt. Khautungkan, and Thorang Peak.

Overnight in Thorang Phedi

Day Thirteen:

Thorang Phedi to Muktinath (3,800 m) via Thorang La Pass (5,416 m) - 7-8 hours trek

Early in the morning, we will trek up to the mountain to reach Muktinath Valley through one of the highest passes in the world, Thorang La Pass. We will cross the pass from east to west (Manang to Muktinath) as it is considered to be the safest and easiest direction.

Once we get to the top of the pass, we will be awarded the majestic views of the snowy mountains above and the beautiful valley below. Trekking early in the morning on the steep path will be worth it. We can take some photos here, and head to Muktinath Valley set at the foot of Thorang La Pass.

Overnight in Muktinath.

Day Fourteen:

Muktinath to Jomsom (2,715 m) - 5-6 hours trek

Muktinath temple, the temple set at the highest altitude in the country, is a beautiful and sacred landmark for Hindus and Buddhists. We will start our trek by visiting the famous temple. The temple includes 108 water-sprouts from where freshwater flows. And, by taking a quick bath in all water sprouts a man atone for his sins. From here, we will walk along the trail, which offers the view of the Mt. Dhaulagiri. We will also come across different streams, meadows, and then hills above Kagbeni.

Kagbeni is a small village with small memorial stupas and monasteries. We will have our lunch here and head along the trek though the windy areas to reach Jomsom.

Overnight in Jomsom.

Day Fifteen:

Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara (823 m) - about 30 minutes flight

After having breakfast in Jomsom, we will take a flight to Pokhara. The flight offers a stunning view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, and we will also leap over the deepest gorge in the world. The weather will be warmer and more relaxing.

We can go for boating in Phewa Lake or visiting famous landmarks such as Davis Falls, World Peace Pagoda, Mahendra Cave, and much more. Furthermore, we can take a stroll in the lakeside area in the evening.

Overnight in Pokhara

Day Sixteen:

Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu - about 30 minutes flight

Today we will take another short flight to Kathmandu. Once we reach Kathmandu, you can rest in your hotel room or spend your time strolling around the city. We will offer a farewell dinner in the evening to celebrate the success of our trek.

Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day Seventeen:

Final Departure - about 30 minutes drive

It is the day where our journey will come to an end. We can exchange photos and maybe mails with each other.

Our staff will drop you at the airport approximately 3 hours earlier than your scheduled flight. You will leave Nepal but take wonderful memories with you.
