Rara lake lies at an elevation of 2,990 meters, with an area of 10.8 km square in the Mugu District of Far Western Nepal, which is also the most extensive and deepest Lake in Nepal. It lies in a valley so beautiful that being around this surround is spellbinding and is surrounded by lush forests and stunning mountain landscapes. Shey Phoksundo Lake is located in Lower Dolpa, which is the most remote and isolated high altitude valleys in the Himalaya and also the second deepest lake in Nepal. This lake is considered to be sacred by the residents. The village of Ringmo situated on the southern edge of the dam caused by a landslide many years ago. It is located at an altitude of 3,611 m with a maximum depth of 145m and covering an area of 1.91 sq. Miles.

There are about 20 Stupas on the south side of the lake, which leads the way to an ancient religion preceding the Buddhist monastery. Just a short distance on the southern part of the lake is a stunning Siligad Waterfall of height 167 m. 3. Gosainkunda Lake

Gosaikunda Lake is located in the Rasuwa district and is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites for Hindus. This freshwater lake is also a part of the popular trekking route in the Langtang region, lying just north of Kathmandu. Gosainkunda is a holy lake situated at the height of 4380m with a surface area of 34 acres. There are around 108 lakes of various sizes scattered in this region. 

Hindu mythology considers the Gosainkunda area as the residence of Hindu Deities, Lord Shiva, and Goddess Gauri. Gosainkunda also mentioned as Samudramanthan on the Hindu scriptures and old books such as Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Puran, Ramayana, along with Mahabharata. Janai Purnima is one Hindu festival when thousands of pilgrims from India and Nepal dive into this lake.

4. Tilicho Lake

Tilicho Lake is the highest lakes in Nepal situated on the northern side of the Annapurna range bordering with Manang and Mustang district.  The lake lies at the height of 4949m, and the average depth is 85m. It is located in the Manang District of Gandaki Zone just 55 kilometers away from Pokhara. It is considered as a sacred lake and is featured in one of the Hindu epics – Ramayana. 

You can pay a  visit to Tilicho lake while doing the Annapurna Circuit Trek. The view from the edge of the valley can be compared to nothing on bright days. A mesmerizing view of Annapurna II, III, IV, Ganga Purna, Himalchuli, Manaslu, Himlung, Chulu West can also be seen. 

5. Gokyo Lake

The Gokyo lake is a group of six Lakes situated at the base of the Mt. Everest. Dudh Pokhari, also known as Gokyo Lakes, is the one visited by trekkers the most. It lies on the less-visited trail away from the main path to Everest Base Camp trek. These lakes are situated at the height of 4700 to 5000 meters above sea level. These lakes are considered to be the world’s highest freshwater lake with six leading lakes. The Gokyo lake and associated wetlands were designated a Ramsar Site.

Those trekkers and nature lovers who are preparing for an adventure trek in the Everest region will find their trip incomplete if they miss the opportunity to visit these unspoiled lakes. 6. Panch Pokhari

Panch Pokhari is a group of 5 Hindu holy lakes lying at an elevation of about 4100m above sea level situated in the Sindhupalchowk District of Nepal, which is also the 9th highest altitude wetland in the world. The lake in Janai Purnima is a popular destination for both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. Many people of different traditions come here and perform their rituals to make their deities happy.

Panch Pokhari is one of the leading destinations of Langtang National Park. Panch Pokhari lies to the north of the Kathmandu valley surrounded by the range of peaks of Jugal Himal Range that includes Dorje Lakpa, Madiya, and Phurba Chhyachu. Despite being beautiful, this region is remote and isolated close to Kathmandu.

7. Dudh Kunda

Dudh Kunda means a lake of Milk in English. Situated at the southern part of Solukhumbu District below bases of gigantic snow-capped mountains. This lake is mostly famous for Hindu followers from India and Nepal and is crowded during August in Janai Purnima.

Diving in this lake during Janai Purnima holy lake cleanses the sins of the followers and gets blessed by the gods. 8. Birendra Lake

Birendra Lake is a freshwater lake located in Manaslu Region in Gorkha District. Birendra Taal is nearby Punhyen Glacier and Gompa just half an hour away from Samagaun, where most people spend their acclimatization days. Birendra Taal can be visited while doing Manaslu Circuit Trek. The lake lies in Manaslu Conservation Area.

It is a glacier lake formed by the melting of ice of Mt. Manaslu. It is the most popular side trip to Manaslu Circuit Trek. To reach the lake, locals have added some signboards which will direct you to the lake.
